Data Protection Law

WHAT IS DATA PROTECTION LAW?

Data Protection regulations, officially known as the Organic Law on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD) in Spain, establish the guidelines that all entities must follow to guarantee the security of citizens' information and prevent its improper use without their consent. In other words, it is responsible for protecting privacy and preventing personal data from being used for unauthorized purposes.

In 2018, this law underwent significant changes with the entry into force of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which impacted all websites and companies that manage user information. One of the most relevant changes was the need to obtain explicit consent for the use of cookies and other data collection systems, granting the user greater control over their personal information.

Although there are still companies that try to exploit legal loopholes to manage user data, the regulation has represented a significant advance in the protection of digital privacy. Now, visitors to a website can accept or reject the use of cookies and other mechanisms, thus preventing the collection of information without their permission.

In Spain, this law is regulated under national legislation, in harmony with European guidelines, consolidating itself as a fundamental element to guarantee security and transparency in the use of data on the internet.

WHAT IS THE DATA PROTECTION LAW FOR?

Data Protection regulations aim to ensure that any individual's personal information is not used without their consent, thus protecting their data from possible misuse or access by unauthorized third parties. This regulation is essential to preserve privacy and security in the digital environment.

Without a law like this, the operation of online stores and other platforms that require personal information would be compromised, as there would be no legal framework regulating the management and protection of user data. For this reason, Data Protection has become a key piece in the digital sphere, ensuring that citizens' information is kept secure and is only used with their explicit consent.
